    Swedish M96 sniper

I've got a sporterized Swede M96, but the only thing that makes it "sporterized" is the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope mount, the rear sight leaf is missing, and the bolt handle is bent down. Other than that it's all original, even has all matching numbers.

I was thinking of putting a repro scope and base on it, so my question is what are my options? I think Accumounts makes repro scopes for mosins, mausers, enfields, ect. but are they any good?

The only downside to that route is I think I'd be limited to 4x power scopes, so another route I was considering was to just use the mount that's already on the rifle and find a higher powered vintage looking scope thats 10x, 12x, or maybe even higher just so it looks period correct. What are my options then? I found a site simply called vintage gun scopes and they got a bunch of options, I was wondering if those were any good as well.

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated, TIA

The Swedes used at least four different scopes, on two different QD side mounts, on their Model 1941 Sniper Rifles. The (left) side mounts required three tapped holes and two alignment pin holes. All Model 1941 rifles had bent bolt handles. Early bolts were bright polished and late bolts were blued. Some rifles were made without rear sights and others were made without mounts (but drilled for mounts) as spares. Scopes and their rings were stored separately from the rifles, which is why you encounter scopeless Model 1941's.

You might not want to mess with your rifle if it is a real P*r*i*c*k*skyttegevar m/41 (aka Gevär m/41).

[Some kind of obscenity filter is taking exception to the real name of this rifle.]

I personally wouldn't mess with a real Gevar m41. If you want to shoot it - cool, lots of folks do - but I wouldn't modify it to mount a 21st century optic.

The most common early war scopes were the German Waffen stamped 4x90 Ajack made for export to Sweden (provided by the Reich in the early part of WWII).
After that the Swedes (after being considered less of a strategic interest to WWII Germany) they (Swedes) were forced to use inferior domestically produced AGA42 and AGA44 optics.

I think there were something like 5,000-5,500 m/41's made between 1941 and 1944 (that includes all the m/41's with the 3 different optics, one German Jackenroll [aJACK] and 2 indigenous AGA's "issued" to the troops from Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori produced for the war effort)

The fourth scope type mounted on some P*r*i*c*k*skyttegevar m/41 rifles was the Zeiss Jena Zielvier.

Yes indeed, you definitely know your m/41's.
I left off the Zf.39 because a real one is a unicorn (low turret) and was usually found on a K98k until the high-turrets (vast increase in production) came out around the last 3rd of the war.
The main suppliers of military scopes for the Zf.39 system were Carl Zeiss (blc), Kahles (CAD), Ajack, Hensdolt & Sohne (bmj), Hensdolt Werk (bek) and J. Schneider (dkl). Other scopes have been observed but these are rarely seen.
The most commonly seen scopes on Mauser rifles are the CAD (Kahles) 4x, AJACK 4x90, bmj 4x, and bek 4x.
The majority of scopes fitted to J. P. Sauer turrets from the factory were the Schneider (dkl) and Kahles H4x60. Some have been observed with the Lovec 4x and Carl Zeiss 4x.
It is very likely that other scopes were used in the Jagerspende program.

But back to the OP, you CAN find replicas of almost all of the models - but you're stuck with 4x or 3x.
If you do actually have an authentic m/41 - I'll say it again, I would not modify an authentic m/41 just for the sake of mounting a higher powered optic.
Sell the original m/41 and pick up a decent sporter'd K98 or G98 with plenty of $$$ left over for a scope of your choice AND "walkin' around" money OR another used good condition non-rare firearm.

If this will work on your rifle, a friend has one and has been very happy with it: https://www.badacetactical.com/produ...er-scout-mount

It doesn’t require any rifle modifications.

Thanks for all the replies - I understand your guys' concern about my rifle possibly being an authentic M41 sniper but I'm certain it's not because it's just got the tapped holes through the top of the receiver like what you'd see for a modern 2 piece mount, which is what it has now. I've also tried searching for M96 mauser snipers with top mounts to see if that's possibly what I got but I've found nothing. I can post pics if you guys are interested, wouldn't hurt to have your guys' verification that it's just a sporter and not a sniper. The bolt handle also isn't bent like it would be at the factory, I can post a pic of that too
