Recommendations for .17hmr Rifle & Scope

Based on conversations I've had with a couple of members here, and, of course, my brother-in-law, I am considering a .17hmr rifle for plinking and target shooting. Most likely, a Savage 93R17, but I could use some other recommendations. And, if I do go this route, what are some recommended scopes?

I have a Ruger American. Forget what the scope is. Put it in a Boyd's stock.
Haven't shot it much after sighting the scope in, but it IS a tack driver for sure.

Wish I had a recommendation to make, but honestly I’m following this one for info myself. I’ve been debating a .17 hmr build for a few years now and am very curious what other members suggest here!

    CZ457, your choice of styles.
Most big name companies make scopes suitable for mounting on a rimfire just make sure the one you pick is adjustable for parallax down to 25 yds or less as you’ll want to shoot at closer ranges at some point. I’ve a couple different Vortex types on my rimfires with a old Weaver V24 on my 17HMR..Weaver sadly is no longer with us.

.17HMR ammo is a bit pricey for plinking.

Savage A17 here. I like the semi over the closely similar priced bolts - both are just as accurate for what I needed. But to be completely honest, I haven't really used it since I bought it.
I won't jump into the "which scope is better than another" debate, because it's really up to you and your eyes. I simply used a Bushnell Banner off a .22 in the safe.

I use my my .17 quite a bit around the homestead for pest control. Started with Savage (93R17), then Ruger American, on to a Ruger Precision, and finally a Tikka T1x.

The Tikka is a keeper, IMO.

2nd choice for me would be CZ if I didn’t have the T1x.

The Savage with the accu-trigger is as accurate as anything else, it is the shooter that makes the difference.

As far as scope choice, I put a Leupold 3-9X EFR on my Ruger 77/17 and wanted more magnification after my first 100yd range session.

A Japanese made Tasco Target, in 4-12x or 4-16x is a great budget choice for this caliber. If you can find one.

My Savage 93R17 is topped with a Nikon 4-12x40 Prostaff Rimfire w/BDC reticle. It’s been great on woodchucks out to 150 yards. Seen a few used Nikon’s pop up on eBay lately.
