22 LR is another inexpensive option.

If for range and blinking why 9mm.. I have a Tipman AR in 22LR for range and blinking. Practice AR platform manipulation. A 9mm is just more expensive ammo wise and it will not add much pleasure to my intended usage.
9mm makes larger holes in paper, is easier to see than a .22![]()
I would suggest if you do plan to suppress it, spend a little more and get something that is not direct blowback. Either the CMMG radial delayed blowback or one of the roller delayed systems oout there. Both recoil less than direct blowback and I believe suppress better.

Well I will be the odd man out and say if you want to get into it cheap why not Bear Creek? It takes Glock mags which are plentiful and cheap. I have one of their 5 inch 9mm pistols that I registered and run suppressed and I've been very happy with it so far. I wish it were a rear charging instead of their side charger but other than that I love it.
I had an Aero in 9mm. Never really liked it that much to keep it. I bought a Smith & Wesson FPC that is a blast to shoot with my YHM can on it.
Mine is a fun plinker. I put a side charger on mine, no last round bolt hold open on mine so I appreciate the side charger.
It was a cheap build and it's fun.
I thought maybe my wife would like to use it as a bump in the night gun as it's easier to wield with a light and a red dot plus stability with the brace but she shows no interest and prefers her pistol.
Having said that, I do like shooting my MP5 more.

Let's add to my confusion...
I stopped by a LGS to see if they had any AR9's to look at. There were a couple, but they are priced a bit higher than what I would want to pay (subtle hint: I have a WTT ad posted). But, I digress - the sales rep was telling me that, for suppressor's I will want a side-charger to reduce the gas coming back through the charging handle. True, or just internet fiction?
