My question is regarding Michigan law. Is it legal for me to drive around with an unloaded shotgun locked in the case in the trunk of my SUV?
(with ammo in the glove box)

I'm sure that you'll hear from those more knowledgeable than I, but let me be the first to say NO.Originally Posted by Garrett20
Of course you can. How else would you be able to transport firearms?
Ammo does not need to be separate, either...however in a gun with a fixed magazine the magazine and chamber must be EMPTY. If it accepts a detachable magazine the magazine may be loaded but not inserted into the firearm.
This applies to long guns, and not pistols or 'michigan pistols'.
I was under the impression that the law stated that it was only to be in your vehicle for transportation to use at the shooting range or hunting. Otherwise it has to be taken from the vehicle....but I'm not exactly sureOriginally Posted by Joeywhat
Anyone else have an opinion?

I see nothing of that sort.
Even if it did, you may transport a firearm for any LAWFUL purpose...it is lawful to have an unloaded long gun in your car.

Your "SUV" has a trunk?Originally Posted by Garrett20

Yes, what you described is legal. It goes beyond what the law requires.
If in the trunk, it need not be in a locked case.
Ammo may be carried in the same case as the firearm.
it dont need to be in a locked case in a pick up trunk?? and long as its in a case made for guns ????Originally Posted by Leader
