Go to http://www.gssfonline.com/courses.cfm to see what the courses are. I've never shot a pistol competition either.

Not nearly as competetive as IDPA. GSSF is a good way to get your feet wet in competition. Very low stress. It is fun, though. And it's cheap enough to run through a couple of times.

That G17 will be all anyone could ask for, but you'll see people running virtually every model and caliber.
