    They are trying to make a good move (or maybe not), they are just not good enough with the knowledge of firearms to get it right the first tine around.

    One thing that could be a big draw back is that if "air-guns" are no longer "firearms", then the protections under 123.1102 would no longer be there. The term "firearm", and "pistol" is used throughout chapter 123. The locals would no longer be preempted for the case of "air-guns".
    The preemption issue (MCL 123.1102-1104) is being dealt with in SB 979.

    I just read that. It looks pretty good, now if they could come back to this one and place that "pneumatic" definition in this one it would be great. It would also be a good move to tie-bar them.

    This "S2" substitute is still screwed up with the "propelled by an explosive" language. These guys really don't understand firearms at all.

    How could they possibly be able to get this done by election day? Seems to be hastily constructed legislation.

    Most likely they won't even try to get it done by then. Most of them are already in election mode and little well get done on any bills until the lame duck session after the first week of Nov.

    It's not surprising how much gets passed then, because they feel few eyes are upon them for at least a year.
